Having a look through the plan, August seems to be more of a relaxed month. Comfortable runs and build ups throughout, no pace sessions. I can feel my pace and stamina improving at the moment and just hope that this continues to get better.
August is a continuation of the Balanced Training Phase from July.
I am also enduring the Stop, Drop and Gimme 200 Press Up Challenge through August, so it is probably better for me that it is a relaxed run month
2nd August - Having skipped the gentle 3 miler from the 1st due to biblical rain all day (That's August in Manchester for you!), I set out early for the long 11 mile run. With my usual climb up Newbrook Road and onto the A6, I met Mr Patel, a lovely guy who was out doing a half marathon and was 8 mile in. After a brief chat I was on my way again on the return loop to meet Rosh for the last 5 mile of my morning. Rosh was happy to be running back at a pace instead of just out for a run, but I was struggling with a little knee niggle on the last couple of mile, will have to give that one a rest.
4th August - Fartleks again. This time I was joined by Rosh and his skinny cousin Dip for the grueling interval training session. 1 minute of 100% effort (100% of what you have got) and the 1 minute 30 recovery time. We were definitely feeling it by the tenth interval but pushed on for 16. The last minute I heard the light footsteps of Dip coming up behind me, with everything I had left I started to sprint to stay ahead, Dip did the same to get in front....then I looked at my watch and we still had 30 seconds left! Great session and enjoyed by all!
8th August - Whilst camping in Clitheroe for the Annual Food Festival, I went out for a countryside jaunt. I saw 3 cars on my 4 miles, real country lanes with no traffic, absolute bliss. What I didn't expect was the hill climb up Twitter Lane, but at least it burnt a few calories off from the food fest!
Great run, really enjoyed
10th August - Cramp, Cramp, CRAMP!!! I set off really strong, but had a little bit of an ache in my thighs. As I turned onto the long stretch of Holden Road and Manchester Road I had pacers the full route. Reaching my final turn onto Princes Ave (leading to the biggest hill in the Northwest) I stopped to tie my shoe lace....that is the point everything went wrong! I could not stand up again. Game over! The last mile and half home hurt like hell!
12th August - After the cramp session a couple of days ago, I was a little cautious to set off but was soon in my stride. The first couple of miles were downhill, followed by a couple of miles on a gentle incline and then a few uphills to finish. Felt strong at the 5.5 mile so pushed to beat my 10k record....I was 30 seconds shy. Great weather for a run, but the forecast does not look good for the next outing.
14th August - my planned 5.5 mile run on the Friday was put to rest with a 24 hour stomach bug! I firmly stayed close to facilities and the thought of jostling about on the road, it would not have been a pretty picture
16th August - Feeling much better than the day before, I was back out on the road, with a new 8.5 mile route planned with some fairly decent climbs to start with but maintaining a steady 9 min/mi pace. Finished very strongly, as if I could have carried on round again, which is a definite positive. Whilst out on the run, I had a little thought about ways of posting about my runs...more to follow soon
19th & 22nd August - I thought I would do something a little different this week in regards to the reports and take you with me. I recorded my little 8.5 pace and 3 mile jog runs to see how I coped with breathing, talking, different paces and just in general. I want to do more of these as I think they are beneficial, but also give more personality to the runs...and I didn't feel as silly as I thought talking into a phone each mile. On the 8.5 mile run, I can see by mile 4/5 my breathing has regulated and by mile 7 it seems as though I have just started. Sorry for the Blair Witch style shakey-cam.
I was called into work over the weekend, so had to fit my jog in with the working schedule. Luckily with it only being a 3 miler I could re-track my afternoon walk and make it back it.
25th August - Lonely 11 miler. It was listed as a comfortable run so no real pressure on pace, just keep it between 8:38 and 9:38. I planned a new route before I set off with a few new ventured roads to keep it interesting, and interesting it was. I have driven, cycled and ran down the A6 many number of times, but little did I know that just off one of the busiest roads in the Northwest lay a little cut through of picturesque glory. Went to bed with an aching knee, so will have to rest up before the next comfortable run.
27th August - I joined Rosh and Dipendra for their mid week run, knowing it would be a comfortable run and one I would really enjoy, I was looking forward to this one. Great to have company out there on the roads
31st August - After consuming far too much food over the bank holiday weekend, I needed to burn a fair few calories on this run. I decided to go on an out and back run to which I could choose the distance dependent on how I felt. I ended up clocking my furthest distance run to date at just over 13.15 miles....however, my knee started to give me serious issues at the 10 mile mark so I am easing off for the start of September
TOTAL DISTANCE: 81.45 Mile
TOTAL TIME: 12 hours 12 minutes 3 seconds
AVERAGE PACE: 8min59/mile
