Fueled by Soreen

I completed the Manchester to Blackpool cycle in 2007 on an old jalopy, weighing well over 20 stone and with only one pedal for the last 20 miles.  It may have taken me 9 hours to cycle the 62 mile journey, but I was so determined to finish this challenge I pushed on and on (with really only one leg!).  Beyond knackered, I was presented with my first ever event completion bag which contained a t shirt that was far too small for my stature, a shiny medal, certificate and a random array of leaflets for future events and equipment.  One other item caught my eye though, lurking in one of the corners of the bag was heaven, exactly what I needed after this epic journey, sustenance.

As a kid, I always remember my mum buying Soreen's Malt loaf as a treat, something we could have between meals to crave the hunger pains. During my swimming years, it was a quick fix of energy as I tended to come home from school then go straight back out the door to a training session.  Soreen gave me the energy I needed until my mountain of pasta after the session.

Many years later, at the bottom of my goodie bag, in the middle of Blackpool was a full loaf of Soreen.  If I told you that it was devoured in a matter of seconds, I would not be lying.

With a lot of my long runs being at weekend and normally before breakfast, I always need a little extra carbs to start me off.  Due to this one chance meeting in Blackpool, my love for Soreen was reinvigorated and it is now my go to choice before all my long runs

My love of Soreen has now even passed onto my daughter (15 months old at time of writing) and our Shih Tzu Chewie.  There is rarely a moment I can enjoy a slice of the squidge without sad eyes begging for a bite.

With this in mind, I thought I would approach Soreen (as their offices are only a mile down the road from where I work) to see if they had any running tops or merchandise that I could acquire to provide free advertising, but also share my love of the heavenly loaf.  Unfortunately, this is an area they could not provide, but they asked for my address and they would send something in the post.

A few weeks later, my eyes lit up when the package arrived.  A big, bright yellow box of delight. Filled with multiple sizes and flavours of the wonder stuff ready to fuel my runs, feed my kids and further enhance my dream that the Soreen Factory is ran by Willy Wonka, it must be a magical place

Thank you to all the staff at Manchester Soreen that were part of this wonderful treat.  I will continue to fuel my runs with the squidgy substance and hopefully my kin will leave me with some!
