I met Lucie whilst running the 33rd Vodafone Malta Marathon. Despite recent injury, Lucie was pushing through personal bests and ready to claim her second marathon title. She was a great inspiration and wanted to share her story:
2) What do you find most rewarding about running?
4) What do you think about whilst you are out running?
11) Do you have any run superstitions, lucky clothing, routines that must be followed pre-race/run?
12) If you could choose with anyone famous (including fictional), who would you run with and why?
13) We kept crossing paths at the Malta Marathon and the week after you were in Mallorca running the Spartan sprint and super. What do you like about running in other countries? Which country do you dream of running in?
- Every story has a beginning, what first inspired you to start running?
My mom gave me some money for finishing my master degree (August, 2016). I think it was 2000 CZK (75 €). She said: Buy something that will always remind you this big success. So I bought marathon fee. From couch to marathon in 9 months.
2) What do you find most rewarding about running?
Hard to say. I am not the typical runner. I don’t run for goals, I just run. But I like that thanks to running I can find new destination in my city and also in foreign countries. I am Marathon traveller.
3) What tech/gear/apps do you use? Do you think it benefits you?
3) What tech/gear/apps do you use? Do you think it benefits you?
Tomtom 3 Runner. Great watch that shows me my real and average pace. Great to push my limits.
4) What do you think about whilst you are out running?
Most of time about nothing, less often about my actual problems, exceptionally about how not to stumble
over a foreign dog without a leash.
5) How do you balance life, work and training?
Great. I run from my work to my home. It is 9 km. :) But have a lot of running events during year (more than 25). So every weekend I am out of my home. But I am single, so what. :D
6) What is your training regime? How many times a week do you train?
6) What is your training regime? How many times a week do you train?
About 30 - 40 kilometers per week. On Thursday I run with Reebokruncrew.
Monday and Tuesday - 9 km recovery run
Wednesday - rest day
Thursday - intervals
Friday - bicycle
Saturday - long run
Sunday - rest day
7) Do you have a favourite training route, why does this one stand out above the rest?
7) Do you have a favourite training route, why does this one stand out above the rest?
Yes, around the local dam. The dam is surrounded by hills and forests. So I can run above the dam up to the hills, or along the dam. :)
8) What are your fastest 5k, 10k, Half and full marathon times?
8) What are your fastest 5k, 10k, Half and full marathon times?
5k - 00:28:03
10k - 00:59:30
HM - 02:07:14
FM - 04:45:23
9) I am a big fan of medals and race t-shirts, do any medals or memorabilia bring back great memories for you? What do you do with the medals and t-shirts?
I am big fan too! All medals have special place in my room. For 2016 I have 2 medals, for 2017 I have 17 medals… And for 2018 I will see how many. :D For now it looks like it will be 25+ medals.
Because my size is XS and T-shirt are bigger I use them for sleeping.
10) Any race or event which stands out above the rest and why?
Vodafone Malta Marathon for sure! I made there my personal best in 10k, 15k, HM and FM distance.
And Hradec Kralove Half Marathon. It was 2 days after my wrist fracture. I was a HM star! :D Everybody cheered me. :D
11) Do you have any run superstitions, lucky clothing, routines that must be followed pre-race/run?
No, I don’t.
12) If you could choose with anyone famous (including fictional), who would you run with and why?
Kathrine Switzer. First woman who ran the Boston marathon event. Very inspiring story. She broke the rules and ran instead of prejudice man had about woman marathon running.
13) We kept crossing paths at the Malta Marathon and the week after you were in Mallorca running the Spartan sprint and super. What do you like about running in other countries? Which country do you dream of running in?
It is great way how to see other countries. As I wrote. I am a marathon traveller. :) For this year I have 6 events in foreign countries (Malta - FM, Mallorca - OCR, Italy - HM+, Hungary - HM, Slovakia - OCR, France - FM).
Video from my Malta finishing.
I am a PhD. student and when I will finish it as a gift I will run The Great Wall marathon. It is my dream.
14) If you could give any running/training advice to someone who is looking to start running, considering running a marathon or even to yourself, what would it be?
