Running Training - September

Not starting September in the best possible way, I have decided that the first week of training needs to be rest.  This is due to my final run of August causing a little knee injury.  I have put this down to not working in my new trainers enough before venturing on long runs, but I will have to see how training goes.

September mark the end of the balanced phase nearing the end of the month and the introduction of the next era, "Getting Faster".  This tends to stick to the lower distances at first increasing the speed at which they are done and then finally expanding on the distance covered.  I am excited about this stage of the training as I want to get closer to the pace times it is setting.

My intentions for this month is to record each week as a vlog as a way of seeing how training is progressing

Week 1 (1st - 6th) - Rest and recovery week - making sure my knee is hopefully back up to scratch again I took the week off running and just rested.  On Sunday 6th I went for a swim in the morning as on the 13th I am doing the swim leg of a triathlon for the NCH-Triers.  Swim session was a 16 length warmup (crawl), 16 length Breaststroke, 16 length crawl drills (Arms and Legs), 16 length Breaststroke Drills (Arms and Legs), 4 x 25 Medley, 16 x 25m timed lengths and then a 16 length warm down. All in under 1 hour, it feels good to be in the water.

Week 2 (7th - 13th)....Test Week - After a week of no running and going slightly mad, I started to pound the pavement once more  Opting for more gentle runs to break me back in I started with a 5.5 mile main road/country road run to which I had no problems at all.  My second run was supposed to be an 11 mile run, but I cut this short due to my knee starting to really ache at mile 7.  I then took the option of resting for the next run but moving them onto week 3.  Also, at the start of the week, I was part of the NCH Tri-ers Triathlon team in Nantwich, the full details of the event can be found here

The rest of September was "rest month" after a disasterous 7 mile run.  As I set off my Garmin Forerunner 15 decided to lose all GPS around the half mile mark and turned itself off never to turn on again! After at least 10k of climbing I got to the 7 mile mark feeling strong and then my knee just gave up, no warning, no initial aches just BANG! I had planned for an 8.5 mile run so the last 1.5 mile hurt every step of the way

Now (30th September) I have rested for two weeks and my Garmin watch has come back from the manufacturer all repaired.

I know it will take me a couple of weeks to get back up to speed, but October is "getting faster" month, so I will have to see how it goes....keep here for more info
